About the Book

Petroleum Engineering: From Reservoir to Surface in the Context of Engineering Decision-Making Under Uncertainty presents an integrated engineering framework that connects the entire petroleum production system—from the reservoir to surface facilities—within a unified decision-making perspective.

Each chapter focuses on an interface, or a component that interacts, between the two large subsystems that exist above and below the surface of the ground, and engineering decisions are considered, one by one. 

Each step is made from the assumption that engineering decisions in petroleum production are always, or almost always, made under conditions of uncertainty as a result of the variations that are encountered at all steps from the geological information obtained to a multitude of different practical constraints to economic factors to the inherent limits to which any information is complete or known with certainty.
